Welcome to my Bog!

My name is Lauren, and I am a junior at Gettysburg College. I am currently on a European journey in England, which I know will turn out to be one of the greatest adventures of my life! I'm excited to share my experiences with you, so you can get a sense of what I'm going through in England.
Oh and the name of my blog is inspired by my Bostonian roots, which has caused me to use the word wicked in excess.

My trip to London:

So far my trip in Europe has been amazing! I'm with my dad and we are staying in London for a week. I've felt like a complete tourist which I don't mind and I've had some pretty cool experiences so far such as ordering my own beer in bar, without being carded, and taking the Underground!
Here's what my dad and I have been up to this week:
*Seen Big Ben and the House of Parliament, which is so beautiful. (This view is from the inside!)
*Went to a service in Westminster Abbey where Princess Kate got married. (Pictured below)
*Took a ride in the London Eye, which is an insanely high ferris wheel overlooking the city.
*Went to the Churchill War Bunkers where Winston Churchill lived during WWII.
*Went to Harrods and explored the entire store!
*Saw Billy Elliot at the theatre (one of the best show's I've ever seen).

Some other wicked cool things I've learned:
*You have to look right when you cross the street or a bus might hit you!
*The Underground is much more accessible than in the U.S and as you leave the intercom says, "Please mind the gap between the train and the platform". It's cool to imitate.
*People drink hard cider which is very delicious and tastes like apples, but be careful; it's stronger than beer!
*Be prepared for rain even if it's not in the forecast and is sunny outside because it will probably poor at some point on any given day.
*They call the bathrooms the toilets which I find slightly awkward.
*When in doubt of what to order...Stick with fish and chips and it'll probably be good!
*Drinking water isn't a priority to many people so it only comes in bottles which I think is very frustrating because you have to continuously buy water instead of using a water bottle.

Overall, I've had the greatest time so far! On Monday I will head out to Bath on the train and move into my apartment. Dad and I went to Bath on Friday and it was amazing so I'm glad I already saw the cute little city! I'll be sure to write again later this week!

Crossing the Pond Tomorrow...

I'm leaving for England in the morning!!!! OMG! I am so excited to go explore a new country and to get to see London for the first time. I feel like I've been waiting all summer for tomorrow! With that being said, of course I'm a little nervous about all my new adventures. I've grown to love Gettysburg so much and I'm really lucky I can look forward to going back to school in January. Naturally, this makes me a little hesitant to leave for an entire semester, but I know it will go by so quickly that I will wish I had more time abroad!
So here is a picture of my packing progress so far! It's going quite well and I'm almost done! Good thing I had two cups of coffee today... I can't believe I'm finally leaving and I'll blog again sometime this week in London! Cheerio! (I think some people say bye like that, haha)

My Best Friends:

By the way, this is a picture of my best friends from home. I will miss these girls while I'm abroad but I know they will always be there for me. I am so lucky to have them in my life!

My First Post in My First Blog:

I'M WICKED EXCITED TO LEAVE THIS COUNTRY!
So...I'm leaving in 16 days and I have a ton to do before then, but creating a blog is one of the huge things on my list. So my adventure will begin in London in about 2 weeks and I'm going with my Dad! That should be really fun since I've never been there and it should be good to get used to the time differenced before my journey to bath.
So before I go, I'm trying to think of all the things I want to do in London and here's what I've thought of so far:
1. London Eye
2. Big ben
3. Westminster Abbey
4. Eat Indian food!
5. Go to a pub and order a beer for myself... :)
6. Platform 9 and 3/4...LOVE HP
7. Go to Harrod's and shop...haha
8. Go to the Wax Museum
9. Museum of Fine Arts...Perhaps?
10. Go to Picadilly Square and see a show!
11. See if I can find any of my friends in the city

So that's it for now, if you've been there, tell me what else I should do! I'm sure I'll post soon!
